Working with your Web Site in Unix

You can work directly with the files on your comp.uark.edu or cavern.uark.edu account by using SSH. See our File Transfer page for links to SSH downloads and/or information for Windows and Macintosh.

The comp.uark.edu and cavern.uark.edu servers are Unix based, meaning they run Unix as their operating systems. Unix is case sensitive so if you name a file name or directory (folder) name has capital letters, that will reflect in the URL of the page. Do not use spaces or special characters in file names or directory names as many browsers will not be able to load the page. For more information regarding using Unix, see our Unix page.

Accessing your comp.uark.edu or cavern.uark.edu account using a terminal window allows you to:

• Use Pico to edit your files.
• Use the text-based Lynx browser to check your web page for ADA accessibility.
• Check your comp or cavern quota and usage.
• Use the du command to view how much space is being used in your Unix subdirectories.
