Special Characters

You should always use a special character instead of an image if you can for accessibility reasons. Characters generated by HTML code are recognized by all screen readers and text-only web browsers whereas images require alt tags for explanation. 
Most HTML editors have the capability to insert characters. See instructions below for our supported editors.

Dreamweaver:
Click Insert, HTML, Special Characters, and select from the ones listed, or click Other... and select from the Insert Other Character dialog box.

KompoZer:
Click Insert, Characters and Symbols, and choose a category and then the character to insert onto the page.
