UA Web Publishing and DevelopmentEvery UA student, faculty, and staff member has 300 MB of space on the comp.uark.edu server where you can create your own personal web site. University departments and Registered Student Organizations are given cavern.uark.edu or gizmo.uark.edu accounts for their web sites. Supported HTML EditorsAny HTML (Web) editor can be used to create web pages for the UA servers (FrontPage extensions are NOT supported), but IT Services only supports Dreamweaver and KompoZer. Web ServersThe University's web servers administrated by IT Services include comp.uark.edu, cavern.uark.edu, and www3.uark.edu (Microsoft IIS Web Server). comp and cavern are Unix servers; see our Unix Support page for information on checking your account quota, working directly with your files, using Unix commands, and cleaning up your account. Individuals or groups wishing to add a server to UARKnet, the campus backbone are asked to contact Craig Brown, Director of Network Services by calling 575-2905. IT Services offers a hit counter, form mailer, password protection, and MySQL for use on your web pages as well as information on server-side includes to show current or last modified dates, removing files, merging pages, showing directory contents, named anchors, symbols, images, search engines, and more. Information regarding UITS supported web browsers, pop-up windows, browser cache, and cookies. PoliciesPolicies regarding web development include the Code of Computing Practices, ADA accessibility guidelines and laws, departmental web site requirements, the personal web site disclaimer, and copyright laws. Other Web OptionsOther options for a web presence include SharePoint (departments), MyPoint (personal), and Blackboard/WebCT (instructors).
