Finding a Computer's DNS Entry (Windows)

With an active internet connection you can find the DNS entry for your computer or site:

  1. Log in to Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
  2. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt.
  3. At the c: prompt type:
    nslookup example.yourdomain.edu
    or
    nslookup xx.xx.xx.xx
    (Note: There must be a space after nslookup.)
    where "example.yourdomain.edu" or "xx.xx.xx.xx" is the domain name or IP address of the site or computer respectively.
