Domain Name for Your Computer or Printer
A domain name is an easy to recognize address for your computer or printer on the Internet. Each domain name corresponds to a numeric IP address which is used by the Internet to transmit data.
To apply for a domain name:
Old DHCP System
- Locate your IP address or request a DHCP entry by logging into AskIT and clicking Request Help. Submit an AskIT case, selecting the category Network and requesting a DHCP entry. For information that you will need to include in your DHCP entry request, please refer to our article, How do I register my computer with the old DHCP system?.
- When you receive confirmation that your DHCP entry has been made, make note of the IP Address in order to request a Domain name (DNS).
- Log into the Domain Name Registration Request to request a DNS name using the online form.
- After the DNS entry has been requested, you will be notified of the status.
New DHCP System
- Before you request a DNS entry in the new Network Registration System, please note that all entries in the new system automatically have preassigned DNS entries. You may view the hosts registered to you and their preassigned DNS entries by visiting the U of A Network Registration Page.
-
If you wish to have a vanity DNS name, go to the DNS Request Page, and fill out the requested information.
