UA-Secure Wireless Network Setup (Windows and Macintosh)

IMPORTANT: If you are not authenticated into your computer using Active Directory, you will be prompted for a username and password.  The username is your UARK email address and the password is your UARK password.

Windows

Before you connect to the UA-Secure wireless network, it is suggested that you make sure you have the latest Windows updates and network drivers from the manufacturer of your wireless network card.

  1. Right-click on the wireless network icon in the system tray, and select View Available Wireless Networks.
  2. Under Related Tasks on the left side, click Change advanced settings.
  3. Select the Wireless Networks tab.
  4. Select UA-Secure, and click on Properties.
  5. Under the Association tab, make sure that Network Authentication is set to WPA and Data encryption is set to TKIP.
  6. Next, select the Authentication tab. Make sure EAP Type is set to Protected EAP (PEAP).
  7. Click on Properties, and uncheck the box labled Validate server certificate.
  8. Make sure the Select Authentication Method: dropdown is set to Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) and click on Configure.
  9. If you are logging into the UARK Active Directory with your computer, check the box labeled Automatically use my Windows login name and password (and domain if any).  If you are not logging in via AD, uncheck that box.  Click OK.
  10. Click OK, and make sure the boxes labeled Authenticate as computer when computer information is available and Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable are both unchecked.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Close out the wireless configuration by clicking OK.
  13. You are now configured to connect to the UA-Secure wireless network.  To connect to the network, double-click on UA-Secure from the View Available Wireless Networks box. 

Macintosh

Before you connect to the UA-Secure wireless network, it is suggested that you make sure you have the latest AirPort update from Automatic Updates.

  1. Click the AirPort status icon in the menu bar and select Open Internet Connect.
  2. If you do not already have an icon for 802.1x, click File, New 802.1x Connection.
  3. Select 802.1x, click on the Configuration menu, and select Edit Configurations.
  4. Complete the following information:
    • Description: UA-Secure
    • Network Port: AirPort
    • User Name: your UARK email address
    • Password: your UARK password
    • Wireless Network: UA-Secure
  5. Authentication: Check the PEAP check box and uncheck all others.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Connect.  You might receive a certificate warning. You are now connected to the UA-Secure encrypted open wireless network.
