Unix System User Quotas

Disk quotas for your comp.uark.edu account space are a 300MB soft limit and a 350MB hard limit. Additional storage is available to faculty and staff upon request. Submit a request for additional storage at askit.uark.edu.

The disk quota for your cavern.uark.edu account space is 200MB.

NOTE:  Your Unix account(s) and mail.uark.edu are separate and distinct systems. Your Unix account usage does NOT reflect your mail.uark.edu account.

You can exceed your quota soft limits for one week, but you cannot exceed your hard limit. So, for example, if you are consistently over the 300MB inbox quota for 7 days, even if you don't hit 350MB, your files are frozen. If you wish to check the status of your disk quota settings, SSH to your account and use the following command:

quota -v

Sample output for joeuser:

Disk quotas for joeuser (uid 71):

where:

  • filesystem = locations of: your home directory (/export/home1)
  • usage = current number of disk blocks in use (1KB blocks)
  • quota = current disk quota setting
  • limit = hard limit setting for disk quota
  • timeleft = if disk quota exceeded, shows time remaining before disk write locked
  • files = current number of files (INBOX: for system use, only)
  • quota = current file quota setting (INBOX: for system use, only)
  • limit = hard limit setting for file quotas (INBOX: for system use, only)
  • timeleft = if file quota exceeded, shows time remaining before file creation locked
