Windows On Campus Installation of Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Endpoint Protection

Before installing Symantec AntiVirus software or Symantec Endpoint Protection (includes antivirus as well as firewall and intrusion prevention tools) on your computer, uninstall any existing virus protection software.
The Windows Firewall (installed as part of Windows XP service pack 2) will be automatically disabled after installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Windows

  • When uninstalling existing antivirus software it is preferable to use the uninstall option in the program's folder or the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel. It is very important to reboot the machine after uninstalling software and before installing the new version.
  • If you run a personal firewall such as ZoneAlarm, temporarily shut it down. If you run the firewall in a high security mode, be sure to give access to the antivirus server so that definitions can be downloaded.
  • Periodically monitor your virus definition files. Your virus definitions should not be more than two weeks old.

Bring a blank CD to the University IT Services help desk in ADSB to have the software copied onto the CD for you.
