Sun Enterprise 2900

The host, comp.uark.edu, is our primary server for academic and research computing as well as network access. This server is separate from mail.uark.edu, the University's email server. Unix is the operating system on comp; see our Unix page for more information. Log into the comp.uark.edu server using your UARK username and password. Check your comp.uark.edu quota (additional storage is available to faculty and staff upon request).

All U of A students, faculty, and staff can create personal web pages on their comp accounts; information on setting up your web site can be found on our Web Development page. The Web Hosting on comp.uark.edu page has specific information for comp. You can access your comp account in a variety of ways; for information on these methods visit our File Transfer page.

Software on comp includes Pine (email client), statistical software, Lynx (text web browser), and text editors including Pico, VI Editor, and uni-XEDIT (see Pico vs vi). Programming languages on comp include C, C++, FORTRAN, Java, gnu, python, and Perl. See our Unix Printing page for instructions on printing from comp.

Information on the calendars on comp and the shells on comp is also available.

To get help on different topics on the comp server, use the manual pages. At the comp% prompt, type:
man name/keyword
where "name/keyword" is the actual name of a program or command or a keyword. Use the spacebar to advance through the manual pages.
