Mobile Classroom
The mobile classroom is a self-contained cart of 25 laptops with its own wireless nodes that can be used only in the Arkansas Union. Special request software can be installed on the laptops, but the STC needs at least a ten day lead time. The STC staff sets up the classroom and is available for technical support.
Reserving the Mobile Classroom
- Reservations can be made for a room and equipment by calling Arkansas Union Reservations at 575-2146, contacting arkures@uark.edu, or going to the Arkansas Union, ARKU 634.
- Requestor must complete the Mobile Classroom / Nomad Loan Agreement form available from the UIT Services Request Forms and Documents page.
- Equipment is scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Reservations must be made two (2) business days prior to the intended use. If any special software is needed the reservation must be made ten (10) days in advance and at that time the requestor is responsible for delivering legal copies of the required software to the Student Technology Center, ARKU 349.
- All carts can be checked out at the same time, but carts will not be broken up.
- For the PC carts it must be included in the reservation if a CD-ROM drive is needed.
- Information needed when making a reservation:
- Time and date of reservation
- Length of time that equipment will be needed
- Equipment needed (Dell cart(s), Mac cart, Nomad)
- Number of participants
- If a CD-ROM is needed
- If special software is needed
- If there are any other requirements
Responsibilities of the Requestor
- Software installation must be requested 10 days before class, and at that time legal copies of the software must be delivered to the Student Technology Center located in the Arkansas Union (ARKU 348).
- Requestor must agree to and sign forms for equipment responsibility and security. Requestor will be responsible for any damage to the equipment while they have it checked out.
- Requestor must notify staff at time of reservation if a CD-ROM drive will be needed.
- Requestor must instruct students to activate their Active Directory accounts prior to event. For non-University of Arkansas students, staff, or faculty, the requestor must request Mobile Classroom Guest Accounts prior to event.
- Requestor must be able to instruct students in logging into and off of the laptops.
Setup and Use
- Equipment will be delivered and set up in the reserved room 30 minutes prior to the start time of the event and put away after the event by Arkansas Union staff.
- The requestor must be with the equipment at all times from the time of delivery throughout the check-in process. The equipment must remain in sight of the requestor; leaving the room locked or closed is not acceptable.
- All participants must have an Active Directory account activated before signing onto the equipment. Guest accounts are available for participants without UARK Usernames.
- Computing Services is not liable for damage of any personal software, or digital or magnetic media that occurs as a result of mechanical or human error.
Logging Into the Mobile Classroom Laptops
At the Windows logon screen, enter your UARK account username and password (same as your email login and password) or your Guest Account ID and password provided by your sponsor.
If you need to use the internet, you must first log onto the wireless network. Start by opening a web browser, such as Internet Explorer or FireFox. After opening a browser you should see the Welcome to IP-Nexus screen. If this screen does not appear in your browser window, click the refresh button in your browser.
After reading the information about IP Nexus, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Click here to log in link.
At the following login screen, enter the same username and password that you used to log into UA email and click Log in.
You should now be logged onto the wireless network and be able to access resources on the Internet. The following screen will verify this. Minimize this window, but do not close it during your mobile classroom session. This will enable you to click the Log Out button when you are finished and log yourself off of the wireless network.
Guest Network Accounts
In order to be able to access the campus network and Internet, users of the portable classroom must have either a valid University UARK account and have activated the Active Directory account or be provided access, for the duration of the class, with a Guest Account.
The instructor/sponsor of a class using the mobile classroom is responsible for requesting Guest Accounts for this purpose when needed. The instructor must also advise each individual receiving a Guest ID of the University's responsible use polices as provided by the Code of Computing Practices and must accept responsibility to ensure the class participants abide by the Code. The instructor/sponsor will be contacted if misuse occurs.
Request guest accounts online or use the paper form, Mobile Classroom Guest ID Request Form, available on the Request Forms and Documents web page.
