Research Data Center

Computing Services' support for statistical software and research databases is consolidated under the Research Data Center (RDC).

RDC was created to assist the academic community with their data needs. Ling Ting is responsible for routine operation of the RDC, under direction of Dan Puckett of the Academic, Research and Client Services division of Computing Services. Routine operation includes providing technical support for all statistical software under site license and teaching non-credit training workshops in the use of most of these applications.

The Research Data Center provides the following services to assist with your data needs. These include:

  • Identifying, searching, and obtaining data that best suits your research needs.
  • Assisting with sub-setting data and saving the data into the data format that suits the analyses you would like to do.
  • Helping you to decide what statistical software are best suited to your research needs.
  • Helping with data for class projects.
  • Working with classroom or small group presentations on any of the above.
  • Presenting workshops for popular statistical software.

RDC is affiliated with the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). ICPSR houses the largest collection of social sciences data in the world. ICPSR Direct is available for providing direct access to the ICPSR data holdings for all students, faculty, and staff at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Users can access the ICPSR holdings via ICPSR Direct. A user can also view holding codebooks locally.

In addition, our staff will provide assistance to help you identify data files for your research needs and help you to access and use data from the ICPSR and from other data resources. For no charge, the RDC will provide support and reference to electronic data and data management. Additional assistance for obtaining subsets of data, data management (including data storage strategies), and data migration/conversion procedures are also available.

Faculty and students requiring assistance with research design and statistical analysis can also contact the Center of Statistical Consulting operated by the Department of Mathematical Sciences Statistics Division.

For any questions regarding statistical software support and/or services provided by the Research Data Center, please contact Dan Puckett (danp@uark.edu) or Ling Ting (ting@uark.edu).
