Webcasting at the UA
Broadcasting live or archived audio and/or video via the Internet is referred to as webcasting. Like television and radio, webcasts are not interactive. A webcast is a one-way transmission of streamed multimedia.
Computing Services' MultiMedia Resource Center can stream live webcasts via a Real Networks Helix Server, limited to 25 concurrent streams. The file format is Real Media and requires the remote site to have Real Player installed.
File formats that can be streamed include:
- Real Media files which require Real Player
- Flash files which require Flash Player
- QX30 encoded files which require Java.
The MultiMedia Resource Center (MMRC) currently has storage space on two servers to host files. The MMRC is not responsible for backing up content on these servers, so it is recommended that client retains a copy of all files for backup purposes.
The MMRC has software for encoding files in the appropriate file format for streamimg and will be happy to work with you to convert your content to a supported streaming format. The MMRC does not offer a service for capturing content.
The MMRC can be contacted at info@mmrc.uark.edu or (479) 575-7401.
