UA Mail

Features

The UA Mail features are linked in the left navigation bar of the UA Mail screen.

  • Mail is the default email screen providing web-based access to your UARK email account.
  • Calendar combines the functions of a desktop calendar and an appointment book.
  • Organizing includes Tasks and Notes.
  • My Account provides a link to reset your UARK password as well as access to email account administration where you can set filters, forwarding, and vacation messages.
  • MyDocs provides 300 MB of space for file storage.
  • Web&apps provides access to the comp.uark.edu server and to your web pages and Unix application files on comp.
  • AskIT allows students, staff, and faculty to submit questions to IT Services.
  • UA Chat is a web-based, Jabber instant messaging client capable of communicating with Google Talk, MSN, Yahoo!, ICQ, and AIM instant messaging systems.
  • UA Calendar provides access to the University Events calendar.

UA Mail Access

To log in, you need a UARK Account username and password. If you have not yet picked up your username and password for your UARK account, you can do so by visiting the Account ID Distribution Facility.

Open a web browser and go to:
https://uamail.uark.edu/

  1. In the Username name field enter your UARK username.
  2. In the Password field enter your UARK password.
    Note: If you forget your password, you can reset it online at PASSweb.
  3. Click the LOGIN button.

UA Mail Options

A number of options can be set in UA Mail. To modify options for a specific application, click the Options icon in the top menu bar within the application. An Options menu for the application will be displayed. Once in an options page, click an options link to change options for that section. To navigate to a different application's options, select the application from the Edit options for: dropdown menu.

Address Book

To access the UA Mail Address Book, click the Address Book link on the UA Mail navigation menu.

To Add an Address to the Address Book:

  1. Open the Address Book.
  2. Click New Contact.
  3. Enter the Contact Information.
  4. Click Add.

To Delete an Address in the Address Book:

  1. Browse the Address Book.
  2. Select the contact to delete by checking the box next to the entry.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. Confirm the change when prompted by clicking OK.

To Edit an Address in the Address Book:

  1. Browse the Address Book.
  2. Select the contact to Edit by checking the box next to the entry.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Change user information as necessary.
  5. Click Save.

To Import an Address Book to UA Mail

  1. Log in to UA Mail with your UARK username and password.
  2. Click the Address Book link on the UA Mail navigation menu.
  3. Click the Import/Export menu button.
  4. Select the import format of the source file: Comma separated values (.csv) or Tab separated values are the most common file formats.
  5. To replace the current address book with the one to be imported, check the box to do so. This will delete all entries in the current address book.
  6. Enter the path to the .csv file to import, or click the Browse button to select the file. Once the file to import has been selected, click Next.
  7. Certain inquiries about the file to be imported will be made. The information is entered for you. Accepting the defaults presented, click Next.
  8. Select two matching fields. The matching fields should be selected to correspond as closely as possible,
    [i.e., "Imported Fields: First Name" should be paired with "Available Fields: First Name" and so on, clicking the "Add Pair" button after each pairing is made.]
    The Selected Pair of matching fields to import will be listed below.
    Note: If Contact Names are imported as Full Name (not First Name, Last Name) use the Available field Alias as a match to the Imported field Full Name. After the import is complete, edit the entries by clicking the edit address book entry icon and add the contact's First and Last name information. Save the Changes.
  9. When all desired Imported fields and Available fields have been matched and added, click Next. UA Mail will indicate whether the import was successful or not; click the Address Book link on the navigation menu to view the results of the import.

To Export an Address Book from UA Mail

  1. Log in to UA Mail with your UARK username and password.
  2. Click the Address Book link on the UA Mail navigation menu.
  3. Click the Import/Export menu button.
  4. Under Export Address Book, Select the export format: of the source file: Comma separated values (.csv) or Tab separated values are the most common file formats.
  5. Click the Export button.
  6. On the file download window click Save. Select a location that will be easy to locate.
  7. Click Save.

Email Attachments

To view an attachment:

  1. Click the Download icon and click Open.
  2. To download an attachment, click the Download icon and Save the file.

To send an attachment:

  1. Compose a message by clicking the New Message button on the Mail navigation menu.
  2. Click Attachments or scroll down to the 'Attachments' heading at the bottom of the New Message Window.
  3. Enter the path to the file or click the Browse button and select the file to attach.
  4. Click Open.
  5. Select Attachment or Inline from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click Update.
  7. Send the message.

Signature File

A signature file contains text which is automatically added to composed messages, usually at the end of a message. To create a signature file in UA Mail:

  1. Open Mail.
  2. Click the Options button from the menu.
  3. Click the Personal Information link.
  4. Enter a Reply-to: address (optional) if the replies should be sent to an address different from the current address.
  5. Enter an address(es) to Blind Carbon Copy (BCC) all messages. This is optional. Enter each address on a new line.
  6. Enter text to be used as Your signature.
  7. Select options to:
    • Precede your signature with dashes ('--')?
    • Place your signature before replies and forwards?
  8. Click the Save Options button.

Expanding Full Headers

If you have received abusive email and would like to report it, forward the email to abuse@uark.edu with the headers fully expanded:

  1. To view full headers in UA Mail, click Headers and then Show Common Headers while viewing a message. This will expand the header; the header information must then be copied and pasted into the message when forwarding.
  2. Highlight the header information; press Ctrl+C on your keyboard to copy.
  3. Click the Forward link to forward the message.
  4. Click into the message text field and use Ctrl+V to paste the header into the message you wish to forward.
  5. Forward the message.

Deleting Email

UA Mail has several options to delete email. To set UA Mail delete options:

  1. From within Mail, click Options on the Mail navigation menu.
  2. Under General Options, click the Login Tasks link.
  3. The following delete options are available:
    • Number of old sent-mail folders to keep if deleting monthly.
    • Purge old messages in the sent-mail folder(s)?
    • Purge sent-mail how often: Select from "Yearly", "Monthly", "Weekly", "Daily", "Every Login".
    • Purge old messages in the Trash folder?
    • Purge Trash how often: Select from "Yearly", "Monthly", "Weekly", "Daily", "Every Login".
    • Purge messages in Trash folder older than this amount of days.
  4. Select Desired Options and Click the Save Options button.
  5. After changes have been saved, click the Return to Options button.
  6. Click the Deleting and Moving Messages link to set preferences for what happens when you move and delete messages. The following option is available: "Return to the mailbox listing after deleting, moving, or copying a message?".
  7. If desired preference is not set, check or uncheck the box and click the Save Options button.

Forwarding, Vacation Message, and Quota

You can set your UARK email to be forwarded to another email account, or set a vacation message that replies to people who send you mail while you are away.

Forwarding

  1. The UA Mail Sidebar has the ability to collapse. Ensure the Sidebar is available. Click the plus (+) in front of the My Account link on the UA Mail Sidebar to expand the directory.
  2. Click the Mail Forward link. A new window will open.
  3. In the new window, enter your UARK username in the User ID field and enter your UARK password in the Password field.
  4. Click the Login button.
  5. Click the Mail Delivery Options link.
  6. Check the box next to Enable forwarding.
  7. In the text box enter the address to forward mail to. Enter one email address per line.
Note: To forward and not retain a local copy (on the server), uncheck the POP3/IMAP4 mailbox option above.

Click the Save button to save the changes. When done, click the Log Out button and close the browser window.

Vacation Message

  1. The UA Mail Sidebar has the ability to collapse. Ensure the Sidebar is available. Click the plus (+) in front of the My Account link on the UA Mail Sidebar to expand the directory.
  2. Click the Vacation Message link. A new window will open.
  3. In the new window, enter your UARK username in the User ID field and enter your UARK password in the Password field.
  4. Click the Login button.
  5. Click the Vacation Auto-Responder Rule link.
  6. Enter a Vacation Start Date and a Vacation End Date.
  7. Enter a number of days for the Interval for reply to repeat senders.
  8. Select Language and type a Subject line for the vacation message.
  9. Type the message that you would like to send. The External Sender Message text is for senders with an email address outside the University. The Internal Sender Message text is for senders with a UARK email address.
  10. Click in the check box to Enable Vacation Message.
  11. Click the Save button to save the changes. When done, click the Log Out button and close the browser window.

Checking Quota and Usage

Quota is how much server storage space is allowed for each person. Your quota is displayed from within Mail near the top of the screen just below the menu. Default quotas vary depending on your status:

  • Students - 50 MB (up to 100 MB upon request)
  • Faculty - 300 MB (up to 500 upon request)
  • Staff - 200 MB (Negotiable)
