Resetting Your ADMIN PasswordWhen an expired password is entered at the login screen, the screen does not change, but displays a message at the bottom of the screen which reads: "Your password has expired. Please type your new password." At this point users should enter a new password at the password prompt. The message at the bottom of the screen then changes to read: "Please reenter the new password for verification." At this point, users should retype the same password once more. Once the new password is confirmed, the screen will change to the same blank screen that is seen upon successful completion of a normal login procedure. At this screen, press the "F1" key to proceed. If you need to change your ADMIN password and don't remember your current password or the above method does not work: 1. Go webBASIS and sign on using your UARK username and password.

Password GuidelinesPasswords must be changed every 120 days. Email programs configured for IMAP connections will receive warning messages when their UARK passwords are about to expire. Email programs configured for POP will receive no warning due to the limitations of the POP protocol. Note: XpressMail, UA Mail, and Pine have no option for POP services. Passwords:
All password changes are checked against the last five passwords used. If a match is found, the change will not be allowed, and the user will be instructed to create a different password. The historical representation of each password will be shifted off. The strength tester is a meter on the password entry page that attempts to graphically display the possibility a password might be guessed. The strength of your password is not a factor in the password restrictions. This meter requires JavaScript support to be on within the browser of choice.

Password ExpirationsThe Department of Information Services policy regarding passwords requires that users create an entirely new password every 120 days. Under this policy, once a password has been used for ninety days, a "friendly" email reminder is sent to the user's primary UARK account. If the password reaches 109 days without being changed, the user will receive a series of email reminders (one per day) for ten days. If a password reaches 119 days, a final notice is sent. Once a user's password reaches 120 days unchanged, the account is locked. To have a password renewed after it has been locked, students will need to go to the registrar's office, and faculty and staff to the ITS Help Desk, ADSB 100A, Mon-Thu 7am-6pm, Fri 7am-5pm. Be aware of phishing emails spoofing University password change reminders. If you are not sure about the validity of an email from the University, call the ITS Help Desk at 575-2905. For greater security, type the following web address directly into your browser's address bar: http://passweb.uark.edu. This is the password change facility, a secure web site owned by the University of Arkansas. The University will NEVER send a message to users asking for account passwords, and will NEVER ask a user to respond to an email with his or her password. UARK account users with forwarding email addresses such as user@hotmail.com should continue to check their UARK mail at http://uamail.uark.edu occasionally to ensure that they are receiving these official notices of password expiration, and to prevent the UARK account from going over quota. Going over quota will prevent a user from receiving any messages, including important notices. An example of a legitimate password expiration notice is shown below:

Forgotten PasswordIf you have forgotten your UARK account password, use your question/answer in PASSweb. If you have also forgotten your question/answer (or have not set one) and/or your UARK username and you are a student, visit the Office of the Registrar with your University ID card. If you are faculty/staff (or emeritus, retiree, or affiliate) and have forgotten your question/answer (or have not set one) and/or your username, visit the IT Services Help Desk. If you are staff and have recently taken a class, you will likely be classified as a student. |
