U of A Faculty/Staff Accounts
Following is a list of accounts for faculty and/or staff members with links to more information and to the printed or online request forms for the accounts. You will use your UARK account username and password to access many University facilities. You can pick up your UARK username and set your password at the UARK Account Distribution Facility. Use PASSweb to reset the password for all UARK accounts, Exchange, cavern.uark.edu, Data Warehouse, MMRC, Enterprise, ADMIN, and Meeting Maker. Log into the mail.uark.edu email server using your UARK username and password, and read your email using an email client such as UA Mail, XpressMail, Outlook, Thunderbird, Entourage, OS X, or Pine.
UA Exchange Messaging Service provides an integrated email and calendaring service based on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. Features include single sign-on with your UARK username, shared calendars, Outlook Web Access, and a 250MB quota. Exchange is available to University of Arkansas faculty and staff only. In order to use Exchange, you must first activate your account using the Exchange Request Form available in the Online Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs.
admin.uark.edu is the system on which the University's business and administration applications run. Use this account to access BASIS. To obtain an ADMIN account, go to webBASIS and sign on using your UARK username and password, click on "Employee Self Service Facilities", click on "Admin ID Request/Password Reset", enter an initial password, and click "Request ID". To access your ADMIN account you will need 3270 emulation software installed on your computer; download QWS3270 for Windows or download tn3270 X for Mac OSX.
WebCT is for instructors only and is a web based system which provides a set of educational and administrative tools to create entire online courses or publish materials that supplement existing courses. Go to the WebCT page and click on MyWebCT to log in. Request this account using the WebCT Account Request Form. This account will use your UARK username and password.
This is the primary web development (Unix) server for the University of Arkansas's official UA departmental pages. If you are a UA Information Provider, you will need an account on cavern to develop a new site for a UA department or organization. If your department already has a web site, to edit the site, you will need the username and password for that account. Alternatives to cavern.uark.edu include WebCT, SharePoint, or the Microsoft IIS Web Service. Log into this account using SSH Secure Shell, Mac SSH, a file transfer option, or a web editor. Request this account using the Account ID Request Form available in the Online Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs. cavern passwords can be reset using PASSweb.
Windows SharePoint allows you to create team web pages for document collaboration, project management, and information sharing for easier communication. It also allows users to share documents, tasks, contacts, and events. Teams and site managers can create and edit site content and manage user activity. SharePoint hosting is offered free of charge to staff, faculty, students, and student organizations by the University IT Services. SharePoint accounts are for departmental, RSO, and official use; MyPoint accounts are for personal usage. For more information visit sharepoint.uark.edu. This server is available for hosting web pages utilizing ASP technology, however; cavern.uark.edu is still the main server for departmental websites at the U of A. Request this account using the Request for University IT Services Microsoft Web Services available in the Online Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs.
Access to the gizmo.uark.edu file server enables faculty, staff, and registered student organizations the ability to share files and to gain access to computing resources such as software applications, updates, and patches. Request this account using the Request for University IT Services Windows Server File Services available in the Online Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs.
Active DirectoryActive Directory IDs are automatically provided for students, faculty, and staff. It allows access to Microsoft Networking resources on the University of Arkansas network and to the computers in the General Access Computer Labs. This account uses your UARK username and password.
A domain name is an easy to recognize address for your computer on the Internet. Some programs use domain names to identify different computers on the network and require that a domain name be associated with your computer.
EnterpriseAcademic mainframe running MVS and OS390 used for DB training, Assembler programming and other business applications. DB2 is available on Enterprise. Request this account using the Account ID Request Form available in the Online Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs.
Repository of financial data copied from mainframe production databases. Use Microsoft Access, BrioQuery, SAS, or any ODBC (Open Data Base Connectivity) compliant software product to access the Data Warehouse. Request this account using the Data Warehouse Access Agreement Form available in the Request Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs. Use the Online Site License Request for BrioQuery and SAS.
A web-based information and document storage and retrieval system (PC and Macintosh compatible). Call 575-2905 for access.
The MMRC account is primarily used for TeX applications. Request this account using the Account ID Request Form available in the Online Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs.
A dial-up account can be used to log in to the University modem pools using your UARK username and password for Internet connection from home.
For researchers requiring storage for large files. Request this account using the HSM Request Form available in the Request Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs.
Classroom AccountsThese accounts are available for instructors to provide certain applications to students. The classroom accounts will terminate at semester's end. Fill out the Account ID Request Form available in the Request Forms section of the Request Forms and Docs and under "Purpose" check "Classroom" instead of "Individual".
