Email programs configured for POP will receive no warning due to the limitations of the POP protocol. Note: XpressMail, UA Mail, and Pine have no option for POP services.

  • Cannot contain tabs or any other control characters.
  • Cannot be any derivative of your username.
  • Must be eight characters or more.

The four character groups are special characters (~!@#$%^&*()_+|`-=\:"?;',./{}[] and space), digits, uppercase letters, and lowercase letters.

All password changes are checked against the last five passwords used. If a match is found, the change will not be allowed, and the user will be instructed to create a different password. The historical representation of each password will be shifted off. The strength tester is a meter on the password entry page that attempts to graphically display the possibility a password might be guessed. The strength of your password is not a factor in the password restrictions. This meter requires JavaScript support to be on within the browser of choice.

If you have forgotten your UARK account password, use your question/answer in PASSweb. If you have also forgotten your question/answer (or have not set one) and/or your UARK username and you are a student, visit the Office of the Registrar with your University ID card. If you are faculty/staff (or emeritus, retiree, or affiliate) and have forgotten your question/answer (or have not set one) and/or your username, visit the University IT Services Help Desk. If you are staff and have recently taken a class, you will likely be classified as a student.

Usernames

If you need to change your UARK username (for example, if you have gotten married and changed your last name), contact svcdesk@uark.edu from your UARK email account and state your reason for a username change along with:

  • your new full name
  • three alternative new usernames listed in order of preference; your choices must be 3-8 characters long
  • your previous full name

A new account will be created for you with the new name and username provided. Both accounts will exist concurrently for two weeks to allow you to transfer the contents of your old account to your new account. After that two week period, the old account will be locked and then deleted during the next routine purge.

Primary Account

If you have multiple UARK accounts, it is recommended that you set one as your primary account. Once you have a primary account, you will be able to set passwords for all of your sponsored accounts by logging in from your primary account. You will also receive the expiration notices for your sponsored accounts at your primary account. If you have not set your primary account, you will be warned and prompted to do so when you use PASSweb. Without setting a primary account, you will not be able to set a question/answer for PASSweb to use in case you forget your password. Your primary account is also your official email account to which official University email correspondence such as grade information, password resets, payroll distribution and other official campus announcements will be sent.

Guest UARK Accounts

Upon request, a temporary guest UARK account can be issued by Computing Services to a campus guest. For example, someone attending a seminar might need to access a campus system that requires a UARK username and password. Guest accounts can be requested by a sponsor (see below) using the online Account ID Request Form available in the Online Forms section at Request Forms and Documents. The account is temporary and will be active only during the seminar, class, etc. for which it is needed. A guest account must have a sponsor, usually the department head or a professor, and the sponsor's information must be entered on the form. A file must also be attached to the form which contains the names, dates of birth, and Social Security Numbers of the guest account user(s).

Account Purge

On the first day of each new semester, UARK accounts are checked and those belonging to non-returning graduates and other former students no longer enrolled at the University will receive a warning that they will be deleted. Two weeks later, these accounts will be locked. Two weeks after that, the accounts will be purged. The purging of a UARK account includes deletion of the email account and its contents, the comp.uark.edu account and its contents, and loss of access to ISIS, dial-up, lab computers (although the computers in the kiosk area at the Union will still be available), UA wireless, Jabber, and WebCT. As long as you are enrolled each semester, your status as a graduate is moot. The Alumni Office gives a one year complimentary membership for Lifetime Email forwarding (@razorback.com) to graduates; however, that does not include keeping your UARK or comp.uark.edu account. Alumni members have to obtain their own ISP services. You can sign up either on the Alumni Web page or by calling the Alumni office at 1-888-ARK-ALUM. You can keep your UARK account if you qualify for University emeritus status. Information regarding emeritus status is found in the Faculty Handbook.
